About Knitting Needles and Crochet Hooks

Most knitters have strong opinions about needles and hooks. The major divide is between wood vs metal designs and whether to use single or interchangeable designs. Plus all those fun accessories from simple and utilitarian to whimsical.

Wood needles such as Lykke have been our most popular sellers. The advantage is that they have a nice smooth texture and are potentially more comfortable then metal. The disadvantage is the possilibity of breaking them with heavy use. Ergonomics are a big deal as Mrs. Knits can atest to. She makes sure to take frequent breaks and to rotate projects to prevent painful overuse injuries.

Interchangeable knitting and crochet hooks come in large and smal size ranges and interchangeable tips. Here’s a link to our Lykke favorites. We are excited to introduce an array of new colors. Lykke Naturale is our favorite! We also have mini-size sets perfect for travel. Not to mention our fabulous Lyra Totes. You can even color coordinate your sets with your bag. We love how it has multiple padded pockets to hold your project and patterns.

Metal needles and hooks are helpful for complex stich work and looser fibers that benefit having the ability to create stability for stitchwork or cables. We love the Skacel AddiSwings Crochet Hooks which feature a tapered handle and flexible design that makes for a more comfortable fit.

Mrs. Knits uses both wood and metal. She uses her Lykke wood needles most of the time right now but has also been known to use Skacel Turbo Addi’s. She used those for many years and know enjoys the Rocket 2 which is a needle that is square with a cane like texture. It took time to adjust to them but they have the benefit of offsetting the slippery quality of straight metals. Skacel needles are made in Germany of top quality craftmanship.

Happy Knitting and Crochet!
