Knitting-Crochet Lingo 101

Ask any experienced knitter or crocheter, we definitely have a language of our own.

Chewbacca our Chief Morale Officer thinks it fun to talk about fiber love. Woof!

So for a little fun today let’s break it down…

KIP - Knitting in Public

KAL - Knit A Long. Often combined with KIP.

Guild - A group of knitters and crocheters group members who gather to celebrate fiber arts. Activities include designer showcakes, project sharing and a chance to connect. Recently mny have gone virtual but post-covid in person is coming back.

TINK - Knit spelled backwards. It means to back up in a row or so one sti

FROG - Ripping out larger sections of a project. Frustrating but part of knitting/crochet.

UFO - Unfimished Objects: Partially complete projects. Sometimes ready to tink or frog. Other need to be let go but you cannot bring yourself to do so.

FO - Finished Object: Our pride and joy. See Ravelry. We love to see them!

Ravelry -

An online website for all things fiber love. Think social media for knitters. Ravelry is a wonderful place to share patterns. stash and interact in groups such as Nuts for Noro. Mrs. Knits personally uses it to show off her projects. You can also post yarns for buy/sell/trade. Useful pattern and yarn reviews plus downloads and a que are fun.

Mrs. Knits profile is QueenofKnitting2. Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop does not sponser as a vendor there. She does have some gems and Vintage Noro that she has collected for decades.

Happy Knitting and Crocheting!
