Out of the Box with Mr. Knits: Anniversaries and a Reality Check
First, an anniversary. Five years ago September 21st, I was laid off from my last corporate job. After a conversation with my wife Bonnie (Mrs. Knits), and our angel investor (her mother), we decided that I would work for Bonnie. I dove right in and we started growing this business from a long-time part time endeavor, to a full time way for our family to earn an honest living. I still enjoy what I am doing!
And we had an even bigger anniversary on September 10th: our 10th Wedding Anniversary! It occurred to me that we didn’t have a portrait of the 3 of us, so I quickly took one.
Part of my job as Vice President of Logistics is to set pricing. So I get to be the bearer of bad news: the tariff bug has finally bitten us. And like most small businesses, our ability to absorb that additional cost is sharply limited. Fortunately, our supplier is able to take on some of the additional cost, so this will mostly look like a typical annual price increase.
The LYKKE product line will be the most affected. Not only will it be the steepest price increase, but it has to be immediate. That’s driven by our supplier making it effective immediately (seriously, a few hours after this writing), and the fact that we drop ship most of our LYKKE offerings for immediate payment by us.
Most of our Noro and other yarns will see a moderate increase in November. We have the opportunity to buy a little ahead at current prices, so we can hold our prices steady for at least another 5 weeks.
Hey, if we can keep this premium yarn affordable for you, we certainly will! But for now, it’s a good time to get a little extra yarn for a future project or for your stash.
